Ben Marter is a managing director at PLUS, bringing two decades of expertise in all facets of complex campaign planning and execution, public and government relations, crisis communications, and media relations to effectively position clients before Congress, the administration, and state governments across the country. Prior to joining PLUS, Marter founded The Forum Consulting, managing a client portfolio that ranged from Fortune 10 companies to small startup organizations. From 2018 to 2023, Marter served as vice president of public affairs at the American Petroleum Institute, where he was senior strategist for integrated advocacy for the world’s largest energy trade association.
Prior to joining API, Marter spent a decade on Capitol Hill, most recently as senior advisor and communications director for Senate Majority Whip and Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL), where he was responsible for developing and executing legislative and political communications strategy for the senator, Democratic Leadership, and the Senate Democratic Caucus. From 2011 to 2014, Marter served as communications director for Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT). He was communications director for Congresswoman Betsy Markey (D-CO) from 2008 to 2011, and prior to that served as Press Secretary for the Democratic Caucus in the Colorado State Senate in Denver.
Marter holds a B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder and attended graduate school at the University of Colorado at Denver.
