REPORT: New Member Profiles

As the 118^th Congress commences this month, 82 new members of Congress have been sworn in to serve in their new positions. The new Congress brings with it many firsts and new records, as well as new policy interests and diverse backgrounds. Understanding these new members’ backgrounds, as well as the platforms on which they ran, is vital to understand the political landscape and where this session of Congress may lead over the next two years.

In order to help our clients navigate this new political landscape, PLUS is releasing a report profiling each new member of Congress. Each profile includes biographical information about the member, major positions they took during the election and information about their district. The following is a topline look at the makeup of the freshman class of the 118^th Congress:

• Seven senators and 75 representatives
• 45 Republicans and 37 Democrats
• 23 women and 59 men
• 30 members who have never held elected office
• 21 percent under the age of 40
• The first Gen Z member
