PLUS Team Traveling Near and Far This Summer: 2023 Edition

August 30, 2023

Our second annual edition of the PLUS team’s summer travels is here! From Italy and Sweden, to the summit of Half Dome and the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix – PLUS team members traveled far and wide this summer.

Here are some highlights from our team’s adventures.

Cody Sanders – Yosemite National Park, Colorado

Cody summited Half Dome over a six-day backpacking trip in Yosemite. “It was an unreal experience watching the sunrise at Half Dome. At PLUS, we win the tough hikes.”

Will Johnson – Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Will and his family celebrated the fourth of July in Chatham, Massachusetts where he spent many summers growing up. They continued his favorite tradition of setting off a huge haul of fireworks (see Will pictured in the lower right corner).

Teagan Gara – Chicago, Illinois

Teagan traveled home for the fourth of July weekend, visited Wrigleyville and caught a Cubs game. “I definitely consumed way too many hot dogs and nachos, but got to celebrate a Cubs win!”

Carly Mulvihill – Nice, France and Lake Como, Italy

Carly enjoyed numerous croissants and cappuccinos on a family trip to the South of France and Lake Como. “I soaked up some sun at the beach in Nice for the day, which confirmed that my happy place is on the water, preferably with a good book!”

Laura Cantagallo – San Diego, California

Laura enjoyed seeing the beautiful coast, beaches and water in San Diego. “The weather was stunning. It was warm, but never humid. I enjoyed swimming, shopping and eating the delicious food!”

Kait Moller – Djurlingsö, Sweden

Kait traveled to Sweden this summer to visit her family, taking a special trip to her uncle’s island. Her favorite memories from the trip are playing Kubb with her siblings and cousins, drinking a ton of Schnapps and spending time with family she doesn’t get to see very often.

Holly Kapsimalis – Los Angeles, California

Holly went to the Griffith Observatory for the first time with her mom and saw the Hollywood sign!

Hunter Wilson – Gratiot County, Michigan

Hunter traveled home to Michigan to help organize and attend his hometown Relay for Life event, raising money for the American Cancer Society. This year’s country western theme “Give Cancer the Boot” energized the community to surpass the $50,000 fundraising goal! Hunter and his brother celebrated their 15th year volunteering at the event.

Sierra Wilson – Montreal, Canada and Seattle, Washington

Sierra and her best friend attended the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix in June. “I’ve been watching F1 for a few years now, and I’ll never forget how it felt to see and hear the cars come around the track for the first time.” Sierra also scored tickets to a Taylor Swift concert in Seattle. “This is now the furthest from home I’ve ever gone to see a concert. And yes, I was at the shows that recorded seismic activity during Shake It Off, so I can now say I caused an earthquake.”

Michelle Bowling – South Haven, Michigan

Michelle got to spend quality time with family on beautiful Lake Michigan this July. “The highlight was definitely chasing seagulls, finding seashells and building sandcastles with my adorable niece!”

Nick Gay and Brian Walsh – Virginia Beach

Gon fishin’ – the Walsh and Gay families had an impromptu fishing trip in Virginia Beach just before school began, thanks to Brian’s generosity. They caught around 20 mackerel, releasing most and donating the rest to the boat. A wonderful end to the summer!
