Ali Ahmad has 20 years of experience in strategic communications, public policy and legislative affairs, and politics. Most recently he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategy to Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, having previously ran the Governor’s Policy and Legislative Affairs team and served as Senior Policy Advisor to his successful 2021 campaign. Ali has developed and implemented executive actions, bills, budget items, managed relationships with members of Virginia’s General Assembly, and oversaw and supported many channels of outbound content across the Governor’s office, including social media content, speechwriting, events and media relations. 

Prior to joining Team Youngkin, Ahmad served as Associate Director for Communications at the U.S. Census Bureau where he led the Trump Administration’s efforts on the $650 million comprehensive communications campaign for the 2020 Census, including paid media development, national partnerships and coalitions, earned media and public affairs, digital, and crisis communications. He also oversaw legislative and intergovernmental relations functions at the Bureau and served as a strategic advisor to the Director and the leadership of the U.S Department of Commerce.

He has extensive experience on Capitol Hill in both communications and policy working under former House Government Reform Committee Chairman Tom Davis and former House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa of California. As a Senior Communications Advisor, Ahmad led on issues related to the committee’s complex jurisdiction, including technology, government contracting, U.S. Postal Service reform, and on the Committee’s investigations and oversight hearings, landing many A1 stories highlighted the Committee’s work. As a Senior Professional Staff member under Chairman Issa, Ahmad led the passage of the bipartisan DATA Act, a landmark bill to enhance federal spending transparency.

Ali has also worked as Board Aide to former Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart, where he gained his passion for local community and economic development and civic engagement, and started his career working for former Virginia State Senator Jeannemarie Devolites Davis, where he learned that the heart of all politics and policy is good constituent service. In addition to working for outstanding leaders at the state, local, and federal level, he worked in public affairs at the Mortgage Bankers Association for 2.5 years, in part launching the Association’s successful in-house video efforts.

A lifelong and exceptionally proud Virginian, Ali is graduate of Mr. Jefferson’s University with a degree in Economics and History. He currently lives in Richmond with his fiancée.
